BMW 2002.
Episode one of our 2002 build: |

History. All of us at SMC are big fans of BMW 2002's. However, our love for them was never quite as strong as Lukas'. We always kept an eye on the used market, but they were a very rare find. And when they did come up for sale, Lukas was always too reasonable to start another project car. He has stopped MANY of our bad ideas. Back in April of 2017, Lukas was away for a few weeks and the project of a lifetime came up for sale. A near complete, non-running 1971 2002 with enough spare parts to fill (and we mean fill) a large enclosed trailer. We knew Lukas would be too responsible to buy it. So instead, WE bought it! It was a very challenging week to keep the car a secret before he returned, but we pulled it off. He was ecstatic when we finaly revealed it to him, and he made it very clear that it was now in fact HIS car, not ours.

Development.Once Inka was stripped down, we found lots more rust than we had anticipated. This lead to hundreds of hours of rust repair, metal work, priming and undercoating. Although it was handy to have all of the extra parts, very few were in new condition and most of the pieces had to be heavily restored or replaced. Instead of rebuilding the siezed engine, we bought a good used carbureted M10 and drivetrain. We stripped it down, rebuilt the carb, re-sealed it, and Endura painted it to give a heat resistant glossy finish. The rest of the drivetrain was cleaned up, painted, and installed. Inka got new Beilstein struts and H&R lowering springs, ceramic coated stahl headers, custom exhaust, and BBS RA rims that were restored and given a custom finish. The interior was completely re-finished, with a restored 3 piece dash, new carpets, seals, glass, and re-uphosltered seats and door-cards. Inka has also been treated to a plethora of other new odds and ends like new badges, a new Nardi wheel, red top optima battery and billet housing, new chrome pieces, etc.
