Viper V10 Rx7.

History.Supra's, Skyline's, and Rx-7's; we've all got a favorite! For us, the answer has always been obvious. After years of passive shopping, the perfect project finally decided to drop into our lap.
This neglected, stripped down, and engine-less Rx-7 was the perfect fit for our style of builds. The original plan was to find a rotary to re-install into the FD, however finding a good 13b, let alone an affordable one seemed much more unlikely than we had ever anticipated. So, in true Slightly Mad fashion we chose to do another unorthodox build. We bantered back and forth between many potential swaps for the FD, and after lots of consideration we chose to use an 8.3L Viper v10 with a 6-speed manual transmission. It was important to us that if we were engine swapping an FD, that it had to be something unique to honor the spirit of the FD. And an aluminum V10 seemed like the best pick for us! |
Challenges.
Most of the obvious uphill battles that we knew were ahead of us were fitting the engine, dealing with the exhaust system, hood clearance, steering clearance, and upgrading the rest of the drivetrain to
take the power. On top of that, there were still all of the other parts of a build that need to be dealt with, especially considering that we started with a completely stripped-down shell! Make sure to check out our YouTube channel to see every bit of the build and how far along it's come! |
